Biographical Notes

Jonathan grew up in Zehlendorf, a southwestern suburb of Berlin, Germany, and attended the John-F.-Kennedy-School there. His father is a lieutenant colonel in Berlin’s Criminal Investigations Department and also lectures at university and takes on diplomatic missions. His mother is a legal and medical translator. Jonathan has a brother, two sisters, and four nephews.
Jonathan has done a variety of academic work, most recently at the University of Chicago.
Jonathan is an avid sports fan. His favorite sport is football (soccer). He supports the Berlin team, Hertha BSC Berlin, as well as the German national side. In American football (gridiron), Jonathan supports the Chicago Bears. He also supports the Chicago Blackhawks ice hockey team, the South Africa Springboks rugby team, and he enjoys watching lacrosse. He does not watch baseball. That sport is boring as hell.
Jonathan’s other interests include living all the days of his life.
Notes About This Blog
The header photograph for this blog is the work of the very talented Miriam Pinkston, who would be happy to assist you with your own author photos.
Jonathan posts as “the wanderer” because the Anglo-Saxon poem of that title from the Exeter Book is one of his favorites, and because sometimes he can identify with the narrator.
As you read this blog, please take its purpose into consideration. This is a personal blog, not that of a company, political group, or any other sort of organization. That means that what is written here are Jonathan’s personal observations, and they ought to be read and understood as such — no more, no less.
